It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Bernardine Sivek at the age of 89 on April 24, 2024.
Bernardine passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Las Vegas, NV after a blessed life. She was loved dearly and endeared by all who met her. Bernie (as her friends called her) was born to Anthony and Mary Prohm on January 9, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois. Her mother died when she was very young, and Bernie was raised by her single father with the help of Aunts and Uncles.
Bernie graduated from Xavier University in Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon graduating, she married Stanley Sivek and had a baby girl, Christina Marie. Having divorced her husband in 1967, she lovingly raised Christina as a single mother. She never remarried.
Bernie was an elementary school teacher at Kennedy School in the Franklin Park School District in Illinois for over 20 years. As Christina married Mark Manisco and began her own family with three children, Matthew, Michael, and Nicholas, Bernie cherished spending time with her family in Illinois. She moved west in July 2023 when her daughter brought her to live with her family in Las Vegas, NV.
Bernardine is survived by her daughter Christina (Mark) Manisco, Henderson, NV; and three grandchildren, Matthew Mark, Michael George, and Nicholas Joseph of Henderson, NV.
She is preceded in death by her parents Anthony and Mary Prohm, her husband Stanley Sivek, her cousin Dolores Coghill, and her cousin Roman Klytta.
We also extend our thanks and gratitude to the staff and hospice nurses at Oakmont of the Lakes Assisted Living Community in Las Vegas, NV for caring for Bernie over this past year.
Services for Bernardine will be held privately for the immediate family.
