

A devoted Catholic, Carlos was an active member of Holy Cross Church in the Bronx and St. Viator's in Las Vegas. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his journey with grace and compassion. Carlos was known for his gentle nature and deep love for travel, art, and aviation, all of which were reflections of his broad and adventurous spirit.
Carlos proudly served in both the Civil Air Patrol and the Air Force Reserves, a commitment that reflected his deep love for aviation. His passion for aviation transcended military service, shaping his career as a respected flight instructor at Teterboro Airport for 50 years, sharing his knowledge and love for flying with countless aspiring pilots. Carlos also contributed his skills as a journalist at Eyewitness News Channel 9 in New York and as a draftsman at Bendix Corporation.
In addition to his professional and military service, Carlos was a creative soul, enjoying hobbies such as building airplanes, painting, and singing. These hobbies were not only a testament to his meticulous attention to detail but also provided a creative outlet that brought him much happiness.
Carlos is survived by his wife Cecilia Cruz; daughter Desiree Zapinsky; siblings David Cruz, Mary Figueroa, and Alice Serrano; grandchildren Zach, Zari, and Zina; and great-grandchildren Emilia and Belle, and a very large extended family. He was preceded in death by his sister Josephine Rivera, mother Eloina Velez, and father Carlos Cruz.
A wake and service are scheduled at Palm Eastern Mortuary on December 13, 2024, from 9-11 am for the wake and at 11 am for the service. Family, friends and those whose lives were touched by Carlos can come together to honor his memory.

Carlos's life was a vivid tapestry of devotion, creativity, and service. He will be dearly missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
