Dr. Caroline was born on December 25th, 1964, to parents Jeremiah Usigbe and Christiana Ewone Usigbe and was brought up in Uromi, Edo State, Nigeria. She completed her Secondary School education at Our Lady of Lord Grammar School, Uromi. While in school, she was a secondary school prefect and was admired and respected among her peers. Dr. Caroline met her husband, Solomon Ugbodu, in 1983 when Solomon was a tutor at one of the neighboring schools. God brought them together, and a few years later, they were married in 1989. Dr. Caroline and Solomon went on to have five children, Clever Ugbodu, Darlington Ugbodu, Courage Ugbodu, Christopher-Thomas “Christom” Ugbodu, and Precious Ugbodu.
Dr. Caroline was known by many to be hard-working, kind, strong, resilient, and family-centered. Her display of resiliency was first evident when she gave birth to her first child the night prior to an examination in college, and then went to school the following morning to complete her exams, coming out with flying colors. In 1994, she completed her first academic degree in Education/Sociology from St Augustine’s College of Education. Dr. Caroline was an entrepreneur to the core and always found a way to help solve the problems of others when she lived in Nigeria. She opened her own store in Lagos, Nigeria, where she bought and sold goods due to the lack of provision stores in her neighborhood. She was very successful and expanded it into a Supermarket store, whereby she traveled to buy goods from other countries and sold them at her store. She later relocated to the United States of America in 2005 for better opportunities. Soon after she arrived in Las Vegas, she started her own catering business and was catering for large events.
Dr. Caroline’s resiliency and strong will propelled her to continue her education after she relocated to the United States. She obtained her Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), where she worked as a CNA from 2008 to 2015. During her span as a CNA, Dr. Caroline maintained her love for education by working on her degree while working overtime in order to financially care for her family. She successfully achieved this goal in 2016 when she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration from National University. Dr. Caroline was known to be a philanthropist and enjoys helping out in her community. In 2016, she opened her Behavioral Health Agency, where she helped adults and children with mental and behavioral health issues. She assisted them with food, clothing, rental assistance, therapy, and biofeedback. Dr. Caroline partnered with Three Square Food Bank to supply food to disenfranchised populations every Saturday. The endeavor was an arduous task financially and mentally, but Dr. Caroline could not turn her back on people in need because it went against her values and her desire to help her community. Her conversation with clients from her agency and clinical professionals in the social services field about mental health issues plaguing Southern Nevada sparked the desire to obtain her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2019. She was awarded a partial scholarship to get her Doctorate in Human and Organizational Psychology and completed her courses and research work in April 2022.
Dr. Caroline was working as a therapist helping children and adults struggling with mental health issues. She also opened her own practice called Eagle Mind Health Services, where she conducted individual therapy, group therapy, and couples counseling. She also facilitated Domestic Violence classes as well as Anger Management classes.
Dr. Caroline was also an Ordained Minister, and her love for God helped shine a light on the lives of others. She modeled her life in a way that drew others to her. She offered words of encouragement to many who desired it and was always determined to elevate the lives of others either through mentorship or financial means. Dr. Caroline always found time to solve any problem of her family members, no matter how big or small. She was known to be very loving, kind, and soft-spoken. She enjoyed the company of her family; it always made her happy. She loved watching movies, cooking, and listening to gospel music. Her birthday, observed on Christmas day, was her favorite time of the year. She was also remembered for having a positive outlook on life.
Dr. Caroline is survived by her husband, Solomon Ugbodu; her children, Clever Ugbodu, Darlington Ugbodu, Courage Ugbodu, Christopher-Thomas “Christom” Ugbodu, and Precious Ugbodu; her father, Jeremiah Usigbe; and her nine siblings, Agnes Uzeh, Dr. Charles Usigbe, Matthew Usigbe, Francisca Iyere, Deborah Adepoju, Christopher Usigbe, Nancy Smith, Rosemary Okoduwa, and Morris Usigbe. She is also survived by many step-siblings, half-siblings, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and family friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, and colleague. Her kind and loving heart will be missed by all who were fortunate to meet her.
