Born in Binghamton, New York she grew up in both Binghamton and Las Vegas. She attended Binghamton Central High School and graduated from Binghamton University with a Bachelor’s in English and Syracuse University with a Masters in Public Administration. She was working on her Ph.D. in Public Policy at UNLV at the time of her passing.
Cathy was a Congressional aide and worked with the developmentally disabled in New York State for many years rising to the position of Bureau Director for Quality Assurance before moving to Henderson. She had the honor of being listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who of American Women. During her years in Henderson she taught at the Community College, partnered with her husband on screenwriting adventures as well as becoming a Master Gardner and being actively involved with the Master Gardener program in Southern Nevada.
Cathy had a wonderful sense of humor and a keen intellect. However, most of all she will be remembered for the love and compassion she showed for everyone around her. She had a great and giving heart and was willing to help anyone she could make more out of their lives.
She is survived by her loving and adoring husband, best friend, soul-mate Paul; brother Christopher Lurenz; nephews Morio Lurenz and Michael Lurenz; as well as other family members and numerous friends. She will be sorely missed, but we know we will see her again in heaven.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Cathy’s memory to the: UNR Foundation – Master Gardeners of Southern Nevada and sent to Ann Edmunds, MG Program Coordinator, UNCE, 8050 Paradise Road, Suite 100, Las Vegas, NV 89123-1904.
