Charlotte Mae Coswell was born in Trenton, New Jersey, on January 16, 1946, at 9:26 in the morning. She was the fifth of eleven children born to the late Ernest and Charlotte Coswell. Charlotte received her formal education in Burlington County and attended Lenape Regional High School District in Mount Laurel Township, Medford, New Jersey. She furthered her education by completing a post-graduate certification as a Nurse’s Aide, attending night school at Camden High School in Camden, New Jersey.
She developed an amazing work ethic and encouraged her children to embrace the same values. Whatever she set her hands to, she did with great pride and joy; her life mantra was, “I can make it, cook it, fix it or do it better!” Charlotte was renowned for her excellent meal service, particularly her sweet potato pies, which
she began shipping across the coast for her family to enjoy. She frequently expressed her love through acts of service, preferred home-cooked meals over formal dining, and was adamant about maintaining a clean and tidy environment and personal appearance.
Charlotte was a woman of deep faith. She gave her life to Jesus on February 18, 1996, at the St. John Baptist Church in Camden, New Jersey, under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Dr. Silas M. Townsend. In 2000, Charlotte relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she resided with "Myrna" for over sixteen years, and they have been fondly known as the “Mommas.” She continued her spiritual journey as a Jesus Follower at Hope Church, Las Vegas where she has served and attended for the past 20+ years.
Following a brave three-and-a-half-year battle with metastatic colon cancer, she entered home hospice care under the careful attention of Nurse Dineen McSwain, surrounded by her loved ones in her residence in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Charlotte departed this earthly life and peacefully transitioned into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 12:44 in the morning. She was eighty years old. Charlotte was affectionately known as “Sissy” to her ten siblings, “Mommy” to her seven children, and “Nana” to her seventeen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and countless others whose lives she’s touched.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her son, Roderick Coswell, and seven siblings: Patricia Johnson (the late Junie), Arthur Oliver (Rosie), Ernest James Coswell Jr., Richard Coswell, Robert Coswell, Sylvester Coswell (the late Vera), and Floyd Coswell.
