

Clara Mae Takacs, sunrise May 10, 1924 in East Chicago, Ind., sunset Dec. 31, 2013 in Henderson. Clara was a long-time resident of Hammond, Ind. She earned her degree of bachelor of science degree in sociology and social work from Calumet College of St. Joseph. Her career included working as the head bookkeeper for A&P Tea Company, a social worker for Lincolnshire Nursing Center and outreach social worker for the Hammond Public Library. Clara loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters. She enjoyed music, dancing, gardening, bird watching, snow skiing, hiking, and oil painting. Clara touched many people throughout her life and will be missed by those whom knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Takacs in 1996; and son, Michael Takacs in 2010. She is survived by her son, Robert Takacs; daughter, Diane Smith (Rick) of Nevada; daughter-in-law, Nancy Takacs; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Michelle Takacs, all of Florida; and one nephew, Michael Petrovich of California. Memorial services will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 130 N. Pecos Road, Henderson, NV 89074. The family wishes to sincerely thank all the staff at the TLC Nursing Center, especially the Memory Care Unit and Nathan Adelson Hospice for all their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clara's name to the Alzheimer's Association or Nathan Adelson Hospice. Arrangements under the direction of Palm Eastern Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
