  I recently read about Curt's battle with Cancer, on the Mercy Ambulance Facebook page and have felt his pain.  There were no updates and I found this in the paper!  May God be with you in this time and abide with you and give you comfort to you and your family!

Well miss you Chief. Thank you for leading by example and setting high standards. You have made us all better firefighters and better people.

Curtis was a great and patient teacher.  I enjoyed running calls with him it was always a smooth operation with Curtis on the scene.  Many at the community college's program benefited from his time there giving back by teaching tactics and strategies.  A cowboy at heart he'll be missed he was a class act a good paramedic, great captain,and awesome battalion chief. A true public servant servant and a good man.

I will always remember the comfortable times I've spent with Curtis.  Whether on the golf course, the drill field or the fireground, Curtis' ability to be comfortable in his own skin made everyone around him feel calm and able to handle whatever was going on. I'm a better person for having known him and the world seems a little sadder without his humor and personality.  I hope these notes remind you of the genuine esteem we have for Curt and help to ease some of the pain.  John Durkee, LVFR.

As Curtis was a good person taken early from his family, but the family should know, they will emerge stronger from this sad occasion, for that is the lagacy that Curtis has and will pass on to his love ones of being a good person. Curtis, you were a great mentor, a great chief, but mostly a great friend.  I will never forget all the things you taught me about leadership, brotherhood and life. I cherish the time we had as a team, all of the discussions about life and work that we had and the times we spent off the job just being friends. Rest in peace my friend.  I will miss you.

Curtis Harper will show himself in countless ways through all of us whom he has shared his many gifts with. Curtis is my mentor and will continue to be, his powerful words of wisdom will remain truly infinite.  I will love you always Curtis.

As a young inexperienced fireman that was fortunate enough to have been assigned with Curt fresh out of the academy, I marveled at his cool headed mastery of chaotic situations for almost 30 years. When asked how he handled such hectic scenarios, he would humbly say.. "hey I didn't start it". 
He embodied grace under pressure, good humor, and level headed guidance to those fortunate enough to be in his charge. Thank you for enduring my petty torments with a laugh. In you're absence, I find myself with a little less guidance in this mortal world. Rest in peace my supervisor, teacher, fellow golfer, friend. - Capt Robert Dale Pittman ret. Curt was a wonderful dad to kids that are not even his own. Stacy and I grew up together and he was always there when we needed him. May you rest in peace until we see you again love you Stacy, Curt and Mom with all my heart.

I am fillled with hope and inspiration as I have had the priviledge to witness Curtis Harper's testament to life.
