With great sadness, we announce the passing of Cynthia Shang Ni, who left us on March 14, 2025, at the age of 84. Cindy lived a life filled with love, service, and dedication to others.
Cindy was a dearly loved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, and leaves behind her cherished husband of 56 years, Bruno Ni, and two daughters, Victoria Ni and Winnie Chen, as well as five adored granddaughters, Allyson Chen, Alexis Shim, Jacqueline Shim, Evelyn Chen, and Miriam Chen. She was also the beloved sister to three younger brothers, Henyu Shang, Henkuo Shang, and Hentai Shang.
Known for her passion for community service and the preservation of Chinese culture among immigrant families in America, Cindy volunteered her time for almost two decades in service of offering Chinese language and heritage programs for children. In Louisville, KY, where she lived for more than 20 years, she founded the first Chinese school in the state,in the basement of her suburban home.
