

He was born in Boston, Mass., on Feb. 21, 1941, to doctors Joseph M. Hussey and Grace Schissler Hussey. After attending high school in Boston, Hussey served in the United States Air Force from 1959-1963. In 1960, he was stationed as Electronics Technician E4 at Nellis Air Force Base. Remaining in Las Vegas, Hussey graduated from UNLV with a B.S. in Business Administration and major in economics. While studying at UNLV, he worked full time from 1963-70 as a Senior Lead Instrument Electronics Technician for Reynolds Electrical & Engineering Co., Inc., in the forward areas of the Nevada Test Site. In 1973, he graduated from UCLA Law School where he was a member of the Law Review. While schooling he served a one-year judicial clerkship with then District Judge Jim Santini. With his law degree, Hussey spent 1974-1982 as Deputy City Attorney for the City of Las Vegas where he played the primary leadership role in the codification of the city’s municipal laws. He served under two mayors, three city managers, and four city attorneys. From 1974-1984, he was a member and later chairman of the State of Nevada Personnel Commission. This commission establishes rules for the state personnel administration. In 1999, he spent years as Southern Nevada Hearing Officer for the commission. Hussey served as Clark County School District Legal Counsel from 1982-2001. He was a member of the American Bar Association, Nevada State Bar Association and Clark County Bar Association.
He is survived by his wife Katherine Lee (Lane) Hussey whom he married in 1996; his sister Kathryn “Kitty” Evers of Hillsboro, Ore., son Joseph Charles Hussey of Las Vegas; grandchildren Kathryn Dominique, Jacqualine Renee, and Jennifer Megan Hussey, and Michael Scott Cook; and two great granddaughters Madaline Grace Hoyer and Evie Lorraine Cook. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Joan Marie Hussey.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 15, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Palm Eastern Mortuary & Cemetery. Interment will follow at 1:20 p.m. for the family at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.
