Mr. David Edward Fisher, Sr. died peacefully among family on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at home in Las Vegas, NV at the age of 94. David was the fifth of six children; born October 29,1925 in Louisville, Ohio to the late Claude Albert and Bessie Muriel (Kriete) Fisher. With youthful ambition in aeronautics, David served in the Army Air Corp from October 5, 1943 to November 10, 1945.
At 20 years old, he married Eola (Cheatheam) Fisher and they resided in the California Bay area for 20 years where they raised four daughters. When he accepted Christ as his Savior and leader, life drastically changed course. He met and married a fellow church choir participant, Ann Carol (McCarty) Fisher, and her two daughters in 1966. They relocated to Vancouver, WA. and together had two more daughters and a son, David, Jr.
As a father of an extensive family and friend to all, David’s passion was to serve his Lord and impart God’s love to everyone in his proximity. David explored careers in the fields of chiropractic care, transportation, lumber, farming and industrial construction for many years building a solid reputation as a reliable and hardworking leader. He was one of the proud construction crew that built the Bonneville Dam 40 miles east of Portland, Oregon, then eventually pursued self-employment purchasing his own ‘rig’. After retiring from long-haul trucking in 1991, David spent his next 17 “golden years” safely transporting students in the Battle Ground, WA. School District with the goal of becoming the “oldest bus driver in the world”. Whether he earned that Guinness title or not, he was absolutely the wisest and most favored by both children and parents. Retiring from it all in 2008 at the age of 83, David relocated to Las Vegas residing under the watchful care of daughter Heather.
A man of many interests and talents, David enjoyed the Pacific NW, outdoor activities, captaining the local Christian Motorcyclists’ Club, avid reading, and puzzle working. Classically trained in music from the age of 4, David not only passed his musical passion on to his family but continually shared his talents through choral and musical group leadership at church. His greatest legacy was as a follower of Jesus Christ and his consistent active participation, regular attendance (to within weeks of passing) and frequent mentorship of Bible study groups endeared him to the church family.
David Sr. is preceded in death by his first wife, Eola, three daughters, Sheila, Vicki, and Cynthia, and his beloved wife of 38 years, Ann. He is survived by six children: Janet Fisher of Navasota, TX; Tammy Carlson of Sumner, WA; Tina England of Placentia, CA; Heather Zahm of Las Vegas, NV; David Fisher, Jr of Kennewick, WA; Dawn Kendall of Battle Ground, WA; twenty-three grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and a myriad of cousins, nieces, nephews.
