David Scott Peterson

David Scott Peterson, age 65, of Las Vegas NV, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. Son of Douglas and Martha Peterson, David was born in Hagerstown, Maryland and grew up in Las Vegas. He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, with Distinction, from UNLV in 1982 and a Master of Engineering (Civil) at Cornell University in 1983. David practiced structural engineering in Nevada since 1984, first at Martin Pelton & Associates as an Associate, Project Manager, Project Engineer, and Designer; and then at Lochsa Engineering as Principal Structural Engineer starting in 1996. He worked on a variety of engineering projects ranging from libraries and post offices to aquariums and arenas. He specialized in the structural design of high rises and parking garages and was an integral part of shaping the skyline of Las Vegas with projects including MGM Grand Hotel Addition, Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino, The Palms Resort & Casino, Mandalay Bay Arena, and Wynn & Encore Hotels amongst others. David enjoyed music, sports, and traveling. As member on the Board of Trustees of the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society, he was an ardent patron of the arts. He supported UNLV Rebel sport teams and was a regular attendee. David will be remembered for his unwavering leadership and generosity. David is survived by his brother, Robert Peterson; sister, Carolyn Peterson; and nephew, Ian Stoll. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Peterson, and his parents Douglas and Martha Peterson. A funeral service will occur Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. A committal service will occur Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123.
