Delfina Elena Castro passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Friday, July 22nd, 2022. She was pre-deceased 22 years ago by the love of her life and husband of 44 years, our beloved father Raymond Castro Sr.
She is survived by her 4 children Debbie, Ray Jr, Elaine and Lawrence, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her youngest sister and brother - in- laws, Enedina (Nanie) Hornyak, Bill Hornyak and Ralph Gonzales.
Our mother was an avid bowler and member of Woman’s Bowling Association, the 200 and 500 clubs.
In the mid 1970’s, our mother bowled her way to national tournament in Washington, DC. This trip was her first time on an airplane. Together, our parents visited historic sites in Washington DC.
Our mother was very talented. She painted several portraits of bullfighters and flamenco dancers. She made her own little houses out of wood, streetlights and painted figurines that came from inside cereal boxes for a village under the family Christmas tree. Every year, she added something new to that village. She made beautiful Angel Christmas tree toppers with crocheted dresses. She crocheted beautiful doilies, blankets, bedspreads, dresses, and ladies tops, baby booties and bonnets.
She was an amazing cook, baker and an accomplished cake decorator. She taught all 4 of us to cook when we could safely reach the stove. We all helped make the yearly Christmas Tamales. This Tamalada, as our father called it, started on her birthday, December 23rd every year.
She loved Dodger Baseball. Her favorite was Sandy Koufax. Us kids pretty much grew up in Dodger Stadium and passed that love onto our own children, Fina’s grandchildren. She attended all of her sons Ray Jr and Lawrence’s Little League baseball games. She loved Baseball.
Upon relocating to Las Vegas from Granada Hills, California in the early 1990’s, she became an avid Bingo and video poker player. 2 of her grandchildren gave her the nickname Grandma Bingo.
She lived a full life. She was a stay home mom and even babysat her grandchildren. She did everything with our father. As much sorrow as her surviving family has by her passing, we can all be at ease as now she has rejoined our father, the love of her life for eternity.
A funeral service for Delfina will be held Friday, August 12, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123.
