Delia Lovell

Delia Ray Lovell, 88, a resident of Newark, CA for 34 years, passed away on June 22, 2021 (her 88th birthday) in Las Vegas, NV. She moved to Henderson, NV in January 2021 to be closer to family after suffering from a stroke in December 2020. She was born on June 22, 1933 to Porfirio and Rosa Ogas.

Delia graduated from Monahans Wickett High School, Monahans, TX on May 23, 1952. Delia later met Theodore R. Jodzio and they married in Del Rio, Texas in 1953. They had four children during their marriage living in Rosemond, CA then moved to Houston, TX. In 1976, they divorced and Delia then became the wife of Thomas Anaston in 1977. They resided in Northridge, CA and later moved to Fremont, CA. In 1987, Delia became a widow. She remarried in 1999 to Lucian “Dale” Lovell remaining in California and widowed again in 2016. Delia worked for the Veterans Health Administration and held various positions during her career. Her love for serving our Veterans was truly admirable. Delia retired from the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System in 2000 with 32 years of federal service.

Delia loved sports with the Dallas Cowboys being her favorite football team and the Oakland Athletes being her favorite baseball team. Delia loved being outdoors and enjoyed walks with her dog, Romeo (Aka Romo), looking for treasures along the way and taking photos of the scenery. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and cooking her fabulous authentic Mexican dishes but most of all she loved her family. Delia was young at heart. The great-grandchildren saw her as their playmate and often asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up. It was not unusual for her to sit on the floor coloring or playing games with them. Delia was also a true friend and loved getting together for a game of cards/dice or taking a gambling trip to Reno, NV.

Delia will be remembered as an amazing mother who taught her children to be strong and independent. She was an extraordinary grandmother and great-grandmother who provided support and unconditional love. She had a kind heart, a smile that was contagious and an easy going personality who loved to share stories of her journey through life. She will always be one of our angels dancing in the sky.

Delia is predeceased by her children, David and Deborah; her brother, Rudolph; and her parents, Porfirio and Rosa Ogas. She is survived by her children, Theodore Jodzio Jr and Theresa Branham; her siblings, Porfirio Jr and Lillian; and her 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Flowers may be sent to Palm Eastern Mortuary and Cemetery on the day of the service.

The memorial service is open to family and friends.
