Mrs. Delphia Jean May Whitfield was born on October 19, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois. An orphan, she was later adopted by the late Henry May and Margaret Rogers May. She attended the public schools of Chicago, Illinois and was a graduate of Corpus Christi Catholic Elementary School and Loretta Catholic High School; Delphia earned her undergraduate and Masters’ Degrees from DePaul University.
As an devoted educator, she went on to become the Dean of Women at Morgan Park High School. This was a role she served in until her retirement in around 1997. Upon retirement, she and her husband, Harold E. Whitfield, Sr. relocated to Henderson, Nevada in 1999.
She was united in holy matrimony to Harold E. Whitfield, Sr. in April of 1972. Harold E. Whitfield, Sr. preceded her in death on September 11, 2013. She peacefully departed this life Saturday, October 19, 2019 at her home in Henderson, Nevada surrounded by her family and nursing staff.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her step-children: Harold E. and (Zahra) Whitfield, Jr. both of Houston, Texas, John E. Whitfield of Washington, DC, and David L. Whitfield of Annapolis, Maryland as well as her step-granddaughter, Tsedey Laura Whitfield (Todd) of Toronto, Canada and her two step-great-grandsons, David and Aiden. She is also survived by her cousins Nick (Elaine) Shannon, Nick Shannon, Jr. and Cora Brown, as well as a host of devoted relatives, friends and neighbors.
