Dionisia Weisman age 74 of Las Vegas, NV passed away peacefully on Monday July 15, 2019. She is survived by her daughter Denise, son Ted (Annie) and grandsons Christopher, Holden and Philip. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy and husband of 52 years, Philip.
She was born August 21, 1944 in Far Rockaway, NY, to Theologos (Ted) and Fotini (Fay) Karanikolas. She was sister to two older brothers, John and Michael and younger brother Steven. Dionisia was first generation Greek born in this country and the Greek community, culture and religion were integral to her upbringing. Artistic by nature, she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Education at Hofstra University and following college worked for several years as an elementary school art teacher. It was at college that she met her husband, Philip. They married in 1967 and several years later moved to Oradell, NJ to raise their three children. As part of a large extended Greek family, she enjoyed large family get togethers for the holidays and during the summers at Sun and Surf Beach Club in Atlantic Beach, LI.
In 1989, the family moved to Las Vegas where she became a dedicated member of the St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church. Both she and her husband were incredibly social with many within the Greek congregation. As a member of the woman’s philanthropic group, the Philoptochos, Dionisa offered her artistic eye to many fundraising endeavors. She also dedicated her time for many years to the annual Greek Food Festival.
She loved to read and was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends.
