Dolores Stewart Davis came from humble beginnings. She was born October 12, 1930 in Detroit, MI to the late Nathaniel Stewart and late Mary Brown Stewart. She was a middle child in a family of ten children who all preceded her in death: Raymond, Kenneth, Melvin, Nathaniel, Ramona, Chequita, Roland, Alvin and Warren. Dolores was married in 1950 to John Alexander Davis and they bore ten children and adopted a son: Earlene, Diane, JoAnne, (m. Darrel), the late John, Jr. (m. Brenda), Marlon (m. Sherry), Marilyn (m. Paul), Sheryl (m. Charles), the late Ramona, Eric, Kevin (m. Daphne), and Sahle (m. Edith). She was employed at Mercy Hospital and as a waitress at Stanley’s Chinese Restaurant for over 20 years where she worked with her best friend and sister-for-life, Helen McGee, to provide for her children whom she dearly loved.
Dolores moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1989 and was visited by a Jehovah’s Witness and soon-to-be best friend, Lorraine Sanchez, who introduced her to Jehovah. Dolores became a Jehovah’s Witness and served 36 years in faith-filled ministry at the Kingdom Hall on Patrick Lane where she had great relationships with many brothers and sisters in the congregation. She also enjoyed a special bond with her close friend and fellow Jehovah Witness, Marlene Redmond. Dolores loved Jehovah and prayed everyday for her children, grandchildren and extended family to each develop a relationship with Him. Dolores was dedicated to going to the Kingdom Hall twice a week and participating actively in service ministry in her earlier years. Her dedication continued in her later years as she faithfully attended virtual meetings five times a week and spent significant time in letter-writing ministry spreading the Gospel.
Dolores loved her family, deeply and unconditionally. She called each of her children every day just to hear their voices, and always encouraged them and other family members to “Talk to the Father, and ask Him to show you what to do” and to show love and forgiveness to each other. Dolores enjoyed spending time with family, whether during weekly family bible studies and prayer calls, family gatherings, holidays, sister trips, reunions, and anywhere there was good food. Dolores also enjoyed and appreciated all of the meals her daughters and son-in-laws would prepare for her, the family members who would come visit her, and the family and friends who called her. She was dedicated and persistent to making sure she went to the door to see off and wave goodbye to every family member and friend who left the house.
Dolores attributed her long life to her faith in Jehovah and healthy living. At the age of 94, she still exercised twice a day and regularly monitored her eating. Her mottos, which she shared as often as possible, were “If you wanna keep moving, you gotta keep moving” and “If you wanna lose weight, you gotta use a smaller plate”. She enjoyed watching older, wholesome, Christian-based shows and keeping her mind active with Sudoku and word search puzzles. She was passionate and dedicated to the life of the flowers and trees in her front and back yard and lovingly watered and tended to them as much as she could. Dolores’s life has been one of inspiration and a high example to her family and friends. She leaves a great legacy of love, faith, and service.
Dolores is survived by nine of her eleven children, her grandchildren Gregory, Angelina, Audrey, Alex, Renee, Henry Jr, Michael, Edmund, Shelise, Aaron, Charmesee, Latrice, Syrita, Khalilah, Antoinette, John H., John D., Vincent, Mohamed, Courtney, Ashley, Eric, Delon, Jordan, Donovan, Chandler, Marlon, and Dorian, 30 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.
A visitation for Dolores will be held Monday, May 12, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Palm Mortuary - Eastern, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123, followed by a funeral service from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
