Don was joy and compassion incarnate. Beloved by all who knew him, he brought love and laughter to his family, friends, and anyone he met.
Born in Bacolod, Philippines, he was the second of 6 children. He immigrated to the United States at 15 and quickly stepped up to support his mother, father, and five siblings, embracing the responsibility with love and dedication. A year after immigrating, he met the love of his life Veronica while they both scooped ice cream at Baskin Robbins.
No one worked as hard or loved people as much as Don did. He earned his Bachelor of Criminal Justice at Cal State LA while working at Philippine Airlines, where he made several lifelong friends. A true leader, he earned the respect of his colleagues, when he moved on to serve 30 years at LAPD retiring with the rank of Sergeant II. He made an impact at every assignment, with a special home at the West L.A. Division and his last assignment at LAX.
He was known for his humility, compassion, and his unbridled joy expressed through his stories and dance moves. He loved his mother, siblings, children, and LAPD family. He loved being “Grandtot” to his two grandsons, taking them on adventures, and always making sure they had the most stylish outfits and shoes. But most of all, he loved his wife, Barney (a nickname he gave her that now everyone uses). Although his retirement was cut way too short, he fulfilled many of his plans, including a recent dream vacation to Hawaii with his family, and a visit to the Phillipines to see his brother and mother.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Veronica; his son, Miles; his daughter, Meghan; his son-in-law, Ryan; and his treasured grandsons, Charlie and Max. He also leaves behind his loving mother, Justita; his brothers, Earl (Arturo), Warren (Ivy, Justine), and Ryan (Mariam, Riley, and Dylan); and his sisters, Lorelei (Ramon) and Araceli (Matt, Jonathan, Gia). He is now reunited in heaven with his father, Ramon. He lived his life for others and left a legacy that spans generations. Don's life was a testament to hard work, loyalty, and unwavering love. We were so blessed to know him.
