Edward Murphy, Jr.

Edward Murphy, Jr. was born August 2, 1934, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Edward Murphy, Sr. and Dolores Wilson Murphy. To this union two children were born, Louise and Edward Murphy, Jr. Edward was preceded in death by his parents and his sister.

Edward, Jr. accepted Christ at an early age as a member of the 6th Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana under the leadership of Reverend Rivers.

Edward, Jr. completed his education from elementary school through twelfth grade in the New Orleans, Louisiana public school system. Soon after he graduated high school at the age of eighteen. Edward, Jr. enlisted in the U.S. Navy on December 3, 1952. He honorably served until November 29, 1956.

Upon his discharge from the Navy in 1956, he moved to Las Vegas.

Edward, Jr. met and married Florida Murphy March 5, 1964. To this union were three daughters and one son. Gwendolyn, Angele, Simone and Marcus. Edward was a very proud husband and father (affectionately called Daddy and Poppa). He loved them all very much.

Soon after his marriage to Florida, Edward became a member of Phillip E. Bell Jr. Masonic Lodge #5.

During this time “Murph”, as many of his family and friends called him, worked at several different jobs, such as

Murph retired from Delta Airlines in 1995.

Murph had a passion for fishing and cooking and he loved Jazz music.

He was a very happy and proud man. He felt fulfilled, Murph stated that he knew God was with him. He knew God had his back. Murph had favorite declarations that he would quote from a book called “The Power of I AM” by Joel Osteen. His sister Louise had four children, a son, Cornell Clark and three daughters, Donna Clark, Yolanda Brandon and Betty Crane. They were so special to him. He loved them a lot.

Time goes by fast and he realized his four children had made him the proud Poppa of twelve grandchildren, Adriaun, Andre, Chauncei, Jazmyn, Nikolette, Infinite-Sahib, Nirvana, Ahpadsara, Vijnanam, Omkara, Gage, and Tristan. Eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also three aunts, Eddie Lee James of New Orleans, Alma Whitney and Beneva Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. Murph is gone home now but he leaves his wife Florida and all of the family and friends precious memories to cherish now and always.

Florida
