I remember your Mom as the most beautiful young woman I had ever seen in person and she was in our house, not at the movies.  As an 11 year old in Edmond, OK to me she was lovely, and also, she was related to me by her marriage to my favorite uncle who had been in the war and had taken me to the movies....Little wonder that I was overawed and overjoyed with her presence.  I continued, after that, to admire her even more, since my uncle George cared for her so much.  As the oldest of this next generation I'm deeply aware of her passing; even though we didn't see her often, we'll miss her being a part of our Harris family.  your cousin,, Jan

As I sat beside my dear loving mother, gently caressing & kissing her face in the final moments of her life on earth, I cherish the last words she whispered to me, "I love you".  I praised God & his holy spirit as she began her miraculous journey with our Heavenly father into Heaven, knowing she was now at peace and going home. Our love and devotion for each other will live in my heart, and eternity, with our Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven. I love & miss you so much Mama.  Kathy

Effie is her name, but her husband, who was my favorite uncle, introduced her to us as Cece, so we always called her that. She came into my life when I was about 5 years old, and I've never forgotten that early introduction. She was a very pretty young woman, whose life seemed adventurous because she was from Wisconsin, a place that then seemed far away from where we lived in Oklahoma. Also, she had met and married my youngest uncle, whose life was glamorous to me because he was an Airman during WWII, who had flown in big planes far from home and traveled the world during his service.

Like many young couples at the end of the war, Cece and my uncle George needed a place to live after his service years ended, so they, along with their baby son, stayed with us until they found somewhere of their own. 

When the Hagans lived in Oklahoma, we spent a great deal of time with them on weekends and holidays, as their family expanded with the addition of two daughters, Karen and Kathy. I still remember exploring the red-sand gullies of the little farm they owned near Edmond and shooting off fireworks there on July 4th. At other times, we celebrated Christmas or Easter at our house or had Sunday dinners at the home of our Aunt Ebie. 

Cece always treated us kids kindly and seemed to enjoy the confusion of the large gatherings when the three children in her family combined with the six in ours.  She was a quiet woman who calmly and helpfully contributed to the enjoyment of whatever was going on during these get-togethers.

Now she's gone, and even though Cece was an aunt-by-marriage whom I haven't seen in many years, her passing has affected me considerably. She's the last of the older generation among my relatives, and I've realized that she represented all the feelings associated with my parents, aunts and uncles. Now the brothers, sister and cousins I used to play with are the Big People in our family, with no one ahead of us.

We'll miss Cece.
