Elie Joseph passed away on February 10, 2021 at the age of 82, at home, in Las Vegas, Nevada. His battle with colon and ultimately, stomach cancer in the past year and a half showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Elie stayed strong until the end, worrying more about his family and making sure they were taking care of themselves, than of himself.
As a child, growing up in St. Louis du Nord, Haiti, he got up to his fair share of mischief and would happily regale his family with stories linked to some of his “favorite” scars or “war wounds” as he would call them. As the oldest of his siblings, though, he proved to be the ultimate big brother, a steady force in the lives of his loved ones.
Elie met the love of his life, Marie Rosie Pamphile, while he was working at a local Port-Au-Prince primary school, where he served as the teacher for one of Marie’s younger brothers. According to him, it was love at first sight, and he know right away that she was “The One”. Together, they had two children: Elie Jr. and Kathleen. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage, in which he credits Rosie as his saving grace and gift from God.
Elie enjoyed reading, as evidenced by his large library of scholarly books and reference guides. He had a manual for everything. When he wasn’t reading, he could be found watching one of his many favorite sports; golf, basketball or football. His absolute favorite was watching tennis matches that featured his favorite player: Serena Williams. He loved family gatherings as they were an opportunity to see everyone enjoying themselves and as well as an opportunity to enjoy good food and all the the favorite desserts he was fond of.
In addition to his parents, Elie is predeceased by his sister Celie and brother Limone also know as “Bill”, as well as many sisters and brothers-in-law.
Surviving, in addition to his wife; Marie Rosie, are his children; Elie Jr., Kathleen Rose and 3 grand children: Alexander Menelas, Connor Michael and Asher Maxwell. As well as countless nieces, nephews and extended family and friends who will dearly miss his amazing sense of humor and life affirming advice.
Elie will be honored in a Requiem Mass on Monday February 22nd, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Henderson, Nevada and will be laid to rest at Palm Eastern Cemetery. A short reception will be held at the family home following the funeral services.
