Ethel Guevara Buri, 76, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 1, 1949, in the Philippines.
Ethel was the fifth child of Judge Getilio Guevara and Rizalina Guevara, a devoted teacher. She came from a respected and influential family in Libaco and Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines—roots that shaped her strength, grace, and deep compassion for others.
Ethel lived a life defined by care, purpose, and an open heart. She pursued her calling to help others by becoming a nurse, earning her Registered Nurse degree, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and later a Master’s degree in Education. She went on to serve as a Clinical Instructor and Director of Nursing, where she not only led with excellence but with genuine love for people. Her compassion for her patients was undeniable—she didn’t just care for them, she comforted them, advocated for them, and treated each person as if they were her own family. The lives she touched through her care will never be forgotten.
Outside of her career, Ethel was vibrant, warm, and full of life. Music was one of her greatest joys. Whether she was singing her favorite love songs, playing the piano, or sharing a moment around music, she had a way of bringing light into the room—especially when she played “The Power of Love.” In those moments, you could truly see her heart.
She loved deeply and lived fully—whether it was through karaoke, traveling, or enjoying time at the casino. But more than anything, she loved being around people. Ethel had a gift for conversation. She made everyone feel welcome, heard, and cared for. She was the person who checked in, who stayed connected, and who never let you feel alone.
Above all, Ethel’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She was a devoted and loving mother to her seven children—Retze, Getriz, Michael, Aileen, Don, Gary, and Krystle—and a proud grandmother to her six grandchildren. Her love for her children was constant, unconditional, and deeply felt in every call, every conversation, and every moment she shared with them. She was their home, their comfort, and their biggest supporter.
She is also survived by her three sisters, two brothers, and extended family who will continue to carry her love forward.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings.
Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, her spirit lives on in the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the memories that will forever be held close. Her laughter, her music, her voice, and her presence will be deeply missed—but never forgotten.
