Ethel Dolores Kiraly, age 78, passed away June 9, 2014, at Sunrise Hospital in the company of family. She was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother and a tireless, dedicated nurse whose habit of putting others before herself stayed with her long after she retired from the medical profession. Born April 18, 1936 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Ethel earned her nursing degree there, launching a medical career that would take her around the U.S. Her career culminated in Las Vegas, where she served as an IV specialist at Sunrise Hospital for nearly two decades before retiring in 1995. While she retired from the profession, she didn't retire from her passion. She devoted much of her free time after retirement to volunteering and working part-time in pharmacies and doctors' offices. When she did finally take time for herself, she loved to travel, go to the movies (never failing to sneak in a veritable buffet spread of candy to share), sew, and cook (alas, we never did discover the secret to her addictive chicken paprikash). And like any good Las Vegan, she enjoyed a good turn at the video poker machines while sipping a comped daiquiri. For all her character, however, she'll be remembered most for her ceaseless caregiver's instinct that supported and inspired her family through trials and triumphs alike. She was married for 47 years to Joseph J. Kiraly, with whom she grew up in Johnstown. Survivors include her husband Joseph; her sons Stephen, Andrew and Damian (Julie); her daughter Michele (David); and grandsons Luke, Zach and Zachary. A visitation will be held from 8:30-10:00am on Friday, June 13, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Avenue. Mass will follow at 11:00am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 5485 E. Charleston Blvd. Burial will be private.
Arrangements under the direction of Palm Eastern Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
