Eugene “Gene” Perry, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife, Birgetta Perry, his children, and grandchildren. Born on January 25, 1943, in Tallahassee, Florida, Gene was the second of five boys born to Edith Allen and Troy P. Perry. He grew up alongside his brothers, Troy, Jimmy, Jackie, and Jerry Perry, forging bonds that would last a lifetime.
From a very young age, Gene demonstrated remarkable leadership and a driven spirit. At just 17, he led the DeMolay organization, a youth group affiliated with the Masonic Order. In high school, he continued to stand out, serving as the Senior Class President and a leader in the Diversified Career Technology program. His passion for guiding others extended into his college years, where he presided over a leadership group dedicated to helping students find meaningful employment.
In the 1970s, Gene made the bold move to Las Vegas, where he met Ramon Sanchez. The two quickly formed a deep bond, becoming best friends and eventual business partners for over five decades. In 1978, they co-founded a highly successful steel and fabrication business, which they managed together with dedication and expertise. Their partnership endured for 51 years, culminating in the sale of the business in December 2021. Despite stepping away from the business, their friendship remained as strong as ever, continuing to be a cornerstone of Gene's life.
Gene left an indelible mark on the city of Las Vegas through the remarkable work he did in his business. His craftsmanship can be seen in iconic landmarks across the city, from the dazzling casino marquee signs to the vibrant Fremont Street Experience. The wild horses that line the highway stand as a testament to his artistic vision, and he took immense pride in his contributions to The Sphere, a symbol of innovation and creativity in the city he loved. Gene's talents even reached Disneyland, where he played a role in the creation of Star Wars Land. Whenever we find ourselves missing him, we only need to look around; in every steel beam and glowing sign, Gene's light shines brightly, reminding us of his enduring presence and saying hello to us all.
Despite all his achievements, Gene remained a humble and caring man who was deeply devoted to his family. His children were the light of his life, and he was their unwavering pillar of support, always encouraging them to chase their dreams and standing by their side through every challenge. Gene's love knew no bounds, and his family meant everything to him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Birgetta Perry, and his four cherished children, Brandy Tschappler, Nikki Allen, Tiffany Perry, and Lance Perry. His legacy of love and kindness also lives on through his four brothers, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom carry a piece of his heart with them. Gene’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him. We mourn the loss of a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend to many. Gene’s spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
