There is no one I have spent more time with than my father, to say he was my best friend is an understatement. My dad was a car enthusiast, a business owner, and the best father I could ever ask for. He loved to race, he used to drive his 68 Camaro down the track at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway doing 9 seconds in a quarter mile. My mother and father started their own cleaning business from the ground up when they moved out here in 94’ and have been going strong for over 30 years. But what mattered most to him was that he was the best father and husband he possibly could be. He was my biggest supporter of everything I did in my life. When I was younger he showed me how to fight and helped me train to become a world champion in taekwondo, when I decided to start rapping at 12 he supported that too and encouraged me to write more, and when I finally picked up a guitar he was there to help me at every single gig with load in and load out. Staying the entire show at every show, making sure no one messed with me when I was too young to be in the bars I was playing at. As an infant my dad would rock me to sleep to Led Zeppelin, ingraining rock n roll into my subconscious. When he would drive me to school in the morning we listened to Sam Cooke, The Temptations, and several other soul artists giving me an appreciation for Motown. Essentially all the music I listen to now and perform live comes from my father. I can’t pick up a guitar or listen to any of my favorite records without thinking of him. These last few weeks have been extremely strange, because I’m constantly reminded of him in everything I do. Along with the good times my dad was also there for me through the worst times in my life. With all of the health issues I’ve been dealt the past 8 years he was there to help ride out the storm every time one came to town and let me tell you, in my life that’s quite often. I’m also glad to say I was able to be there for him as well. He didn’t share this with many people but my father battled stage 4 throat cancer in 2018 and actually beat it when they said he was pretty much done for. It was brutal the things they made him go through with all of the radiation, chemo, feeding tubes, ports etc. But he went through it all because he loved my mom and I that much to keep fighting. Although even when you beat cancer the aftermath can be just as haunting. Because of all of the radiation done to his throat it caused osteonecrosis (bone death) of the jaw. His jaw bone then became extremely infected and it became inoperable. The only option at that point was hospice. 
People wonder why I named my band True Grit, it actually comes from the situation my father and I were in. In the novel “True Grit” Mattie Ross avenges her fathers death but in doing so breaks her arm and is bitten by a rattlesnake. The deputy Rooster Cogburn tries to rush her to safety knowing she will die if left untreated. After the horse they are riding gives out, Rooster is forced to carry Mattie the rest of the way to safety, almost dying himself from exhaustion. When they finally get to a doctor Mattie has to have her arm amputated, leaving her disabled for the rest of her life. This paralleled the relationship and the time I spent sick with my father. He was there with me to the very end and helped me until he couldn’t help me anymore. My dad always had my back and wasn’t afraid to step in when things got ugly. A lot of people when they get to the end stages of their time with a loved one often wish they would’ve spent more time with that person. Or they wish that they could’ve done a certain “bucket list” activity with them. When it came to my father and I we didn’t have that feeling. I spent all the time I possibly could with him and did everything I wanted to with him. I just wish he could’ve had more years so we could continue doing what we always did. I know he’s in a much better place now, and I’m looking forward to the day we meet again. No one can or ever will fill the void in my heart that’s there now because he’s gone. But I do know he would want me to continue keeping on, and doing the things I love. Thank you dad for always being my hero, I love you with all my heart. Rest easy.

My deepest condolence to Kim and Joey , for the loss of your husband and father. You guys and Gary have endeared  so much pain for the last few  years . Gary fought a hell of a fight .and I can’t think of ever one  he lost .This time he didn't loose  he chose for peace instead .    In 1980 I met Gary  at the gym , then out, first I thought we were gonna throw punches instead we had a few beverages and became great friends . Some unbelievable    stories , had some great times  . Gary was the best man for my wedding and best man for next  45 years , Gary was no bullshit ,straight shooter , he  will always be  remembered and truly be missed .l along with Alex and Dom got to spend a couple  last good days  with Gary ,Kim and Joey , we told a lot of good stories ,reminisced  our younger days and laughed and said our goodbyes  . So glad  to have  seen Gary , couldn’t ask for a better goodby if it had to be . RIP my friend Love Jimmy

It’s difficult to know where to start when trying to put my thoughts about Gary into words. Gary was an amazing father, friend, and a large part of my support circle. I can’t imagine how the past few weeks have been for Kim and Joey and everyone closer to him than I was, but even though I haven’t been around much the past few years it is not lost on me how lucky I was to be back in Vegas when Gary made the decision to go into hospice care. Being able to see him one last time is a blessing I know not all of his loved ones were able to share in. 

Gary was like a second dad to me. Every day during high school he would be there to take Joey and I home, and it was during these daily trips I really got to appreciate his sense of humor, the way he saw the world, the advice he would give us while we were too distracted to listen. Even though I always knew he was there for me, now that he’s gone I realize so much more how I wish I would have appreciated his insights and spent more timing hanging out with one of coolest adults in my life.

I will never forget one of my last conversations with Gary, with our arms tangled in a final hug, for the first time I remember he told me something I always knew to be true. It’s one of those things we all can feel but is never said out loud enough. “I love you PJ…” and I loved you too Gary. “Taking care of you kids, Joey and you and Brian and Megan, it was the best part of my life. It gave me more purpose than anything.”

And what a fitting final message. He couldn’t etch those words into stone so they would always be remembered, but rest assured they won’t be forgotten. There was no more humbling feeling than hearing that out loud. 

I miss you Gary. We all do. You’re gone way to soon, but you will never be forgotten and you have left a strong mark on all of us. You fulfilled your self-imposed purpose to the absolute best ability.

Gary was like a second dad to me during I time I really needed a father figure. When I needed a shoulder to lean on, and a laugh to lighten my spirits. He was always there for me. I remember going to see Joey perform a few times and he always stayed by my side to make me feel safe. He always had my back and made sure I felt protected. He even encourage me to live a little and just have fun knowing he will be there for me. I’ll always miss going over to their house and laughing about everything and nothing at the same time. Gary, I love and miss you so much. Rest in peace 💙

When I lost my Mom, you seem to become somewhat numb from death. One of your most precious leaves you.
With Gary's passing that numbness was not there.

My Uncle Gary. A true OG. We spent more hours than I can remember sitting around the bar puffing on a bowl, talking about sports, life, laughing… From a very young age my uncle was always looking out for me. A true protector. I felt safe having him on my side. I can still hear him sometimes. Especially the way he’d laugh and say “right, right”. 

I will always hold in my heart the memories and time we got to spend together.  I love you so much, Uncle Gary. We will miss you forever, until we meet again. ♥️🪽

I can’t remember how old Joey and I were — maybe around six? Anyway, both of our families were at the house, and we all somehow ended up in the garage. Well at six we weren’t really paying attention, so when all the adults went back into the house, we carried on; we never heard the door lock. Gary’s “where were you guys?” combined with his look of confusion was a sight to see for a couple of six-year-olds as we re-entered the house via the dog door. Naturally, we explained and re-enacted the whole scene, and the parents were torn between laughter and the famous “oh goodness” head shake. The rest of the day went off without a hitch, and I’d like to think that Gary got a good night’s sleep knowing the locks with which he entrusted the safety of his family worked all too well. 

So sorry for your immense loss. Here if you need me. Love you guys.

You always did remind me of Sylvester Stallone in Rocky. The Italian Stallion. The way you looked,. talked and your personality.  You scared me a little when I was a kid but once I got to know you I loved you like a brother.  I have so many fond memories  like the way You made me smile at how much you enjoyed Kim's cooking.  The way you would dress up going out. The clothes and suits you wore would make me think Mob Boss. I'll never forget that. I also remember when you and kim stayed with my dad  and you two worked together for a short time when you first got to Vegas. Then you opened your own business and the rest is history. You were a very special person to our entire family and we will always love you and miss you. We will hold Kim and Joe in our hearts and Hands and help them any way we can. Gary was a dad who kept a close eye on his boy! He was a Loving and a Protective Italian Father that's for sure. He Loved Joe to the moon and back.

I have know Gary and Kim for almost 40 years. Gary was one of my brothers really good friends growing up. I was at their wedding and it was beautiful. I used their DJ at my wedding. They're our friends who are more like family. We will all miss Gary tremendously and continue to love him forever. Rest In Peace. We Love You Always.
