Gene Clarence Johnson, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on June 17, 2022, at the age of 79. Gene was born on September 18, 1942, in Waycross, GA. He was born to Rosa Mae Johnson (Miles) and raised by Almos Miles. He was the oldest of his four siblings. He graduated from Center High School in 1960 and entered the Military at the age of 17.
Gene spent 23 years in the U.S. Navy. He fought in the Vietnam War from 1960 to 1975, and received several medals: four Good Conduct Awards, Battle of Efficiency, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He retired at the rank of E7 as a Gunners Mate Guns Chief Petty Officer (GMGC).
While stationed in Chicago, IL he met Veronica Sue Franklin, whom he later married and had daughter Stephanie Jean Johnson and sons Anthony Rashad Johnson, and Michael Lechaun Johnson. He loved and cherished his family.
Gene retired from the military in 1981 in San Diego, CA. He attended San Diego City College and received his Associates in Business Management. He then opened his own business CNG Automotive as a mechanic for 24 years. His family joined Encanto Southern Baptist Church and were members for many years.
In 2006, Gene and Veronica moved to Las Vegas, NV to be closer to their daughter Stephanie. They bought a home and happily retired. He spent his final days enjoying his grandkids and great grandkids. He loved sports, watching western movies, and eating out with family. Hanging out with his family gave him great joy.
Gene is preceded in death by his mother Rosa Mae Miles, brother Carl Miles and grandson Anthony Vitolio Naufahu Johnson. Those left to cherish his memories includes his loving wife of 48 years Veronica
Sue Johnson, daughter Stephanie Jean Epton (Rodney), son Anthony Johnson (Nia), and son Michael Johnson, all whom reside in Las Vegas, NV; his 97-year-old father Almos Miles, 99 year old, aunt Annie Mae Saunders, sister Patricia Brown (Morris), sister Dorothy Benefield (late Isaac Jr), brother Terry Miles (Mildred) all from Waycross, GA; grandchildren Anthony Johnson Jr., Dalone Markeise Epton Sr., Shaunice Epton, Jaedon Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Anaia Johnson, Samuel Johnson; great-grandchildren Khyree Carter (Peanut), Dalone Markeise Epton Jr, Leila Epton, Dominic Epton, Lana Epton, and Justice Grimble; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
