George B. Haushahn, 92, of Las Vegas, passed away March 17, 2018. He was born January 15, 1926 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa to George J. and Marianna Molander Haushahn. George proudly served in the Army Air Corps/Air Force during World War II as a cryptographic technician. Using the GI Bill, he graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, with Bachelor of Science – Engineering degree. George worked as an engineer for 36 years – 8 years with General Motors and 28 years with Bendix/Honeywell.
George was an avid bowler for over 50 years. He was one of the best bowlers in the Kansas City area in the 1960s and 70s. He won multiple bowling awards, including the 1959 Iowa State Bowling College Championship, the KC Citywide Bowling Title, the Nevada Senior State Bowling Title, and the National Senior Bowling Championship. George was a recreational golfer who achieved a hole-in-one which his son, Kirk, witnessed on June 5, 1984. George was also a long time Kansas City Chiefs football fan and a dedicated bingo player. After his retirement he became a world traveler visiting more than fifty countries.
He is survived by his wife, Ruperta San Juan Haushahn; son, Kirk Haushahn (Shirley); sister, Bernice Van Amerngen; granddaughter, Shellie Haushahn Lutz (Doug); great grandsons, Caleb and Brett; and the San Juan family, including Ean, Cookie, Giselle, Narse, Francis, Enzo and Eli.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George J. and Marianna Haushahn; wife, Ruth M. Aldrich Haushahn; and son, Michael Haushahn.
Funeral Service will be held at Palm Southwest Mortuary, 7979 W. Warm Springs Road, Las Vegas, Nevada 89113 on Thursday, March 22 at 2:00pm. Private interment will follow at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
