
Gerald was born on March 23, 1952, in Munich, Germany, to Robert W. Bonner Sr. and Anne P. Bonner. He graduated from Biloxi High School in 1970 before beginning a distinguished career of service to his country.
In 1974, Gerald enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably for 26 years. During his career, he was stationed throughout the United States and overseas, including assignments in Germany, Turkey, and Honduras. Specializing in communications-electronics and satellite systems, he became a highly respected senior enlisted leader and retired in 2001 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, the highest enlisted rank in the Air Force.
Throughout his military career, Gerald received numerous commendations and honors recognizing his leadership, professionalism, technical expertise, and dedicated service, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and multiple achievement and service awards. His career reflected decades of commitment, integrity, and excellence in support of the nation’s defense.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, Gerald continued his dedication to public service through civil service work until his retirement in 2020.
Outside of his career, Gerald enjoyed photography, nature, hiking, bicycling, and traveling. Above all, he treasured spending time with his beloved grandchildren, Dylan and Jolene.
Gerald is survived by his sons, Joshua Thomas Bonner and Matthew Phillip Bonner; his grandchildren, Dylan Thomas Bonner and Jolene Elizabeth Bonner; and his siblings, Robert W. Bonner Jr., James P. Bonner, Barbara Khan, Kathleen Lane, and Mary Bonner Shumway.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 10:40 a.m. at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A gathering will be held beforehand at Palm Mortuary - Eastern at 9:00 a.m
