

Gerald “Jerry” Leo Dessert, born September 28, 1928 in Detroit, MI and passed away on August 7,2020 in Las Vegas, NV due to complications from the Coronavirus COVID-19. He was 91 years old. Gerald is survived by his wife Regina (Renee) Dessert (87); his children, Michael Dessert, Dr. Patrick Dessert, Kathleen Setting and Gerald “Chris” Dessert Jr; their spouses; 10 grandchildren and spouses; 4 great-grandchildren and his sister Virginia “Ginny” Nienstedt and her family. Jerry was a WWII veteran who married Renee in 1958 and they just recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. He served in several political appointments for the City of Detroit from 1968-1974. He stayed politically active throughout his retirement in North Fort Myers, FL through volunteer work in local balloting and voting centers. He was an excellent jazz pianist who played in public throughout the course of nine decades with his first public appearance in 1939 and his last public appearance in 2019 in Las Vegas. He was also an avid sports fan (especially baseball) and loved history, trivia and movies. He loved his family very much and cherished every moment with them.
