Gerry was born March 12, 1928, in Rochester, NY, to Elizabeth (nee Wurtzman) and Hyman Stoler. She was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband Herbert Fischer. She is survived by her two sons, Bob and Tom (and wife Cyndi Devereaux); and her four grandchildren, Sloane, Skylar, Haydn and Sterling.
Gerry grew up in Rochester, NY with her two sisters, Dolly and Edie. After graduating high school, she attended Goucher College in Baltimore, graduating with a degree in Mathematics.
She met Herbert “Herb” Fischer in 1949 and thus began a lifelong love affair. They were married June 17, 1950, and soon welcomed their first son Robert “Bob” in 1953 and their second son Thomas “Tom” in 1956.
With her math background and an inherent love for art, she began substitute teaching and spent many years as a docent at the Detroit Institute of Art. In 1974, Gerry and Herb decided it was time to make a major life change.
In the summer of 1975, they moved to Las Vegas, N.V. and opened an Ethan Allen Showcase Store, still a relatively new concept in home furnishings. With Herb’s extensive retail background as a merchandiser with Macy’s and Thomasville Furniture, and Gerry’s math background and artistic knowledge, they created a very successful home furnishings and interior design business that flourished for 30 years.
Services for Gerry will begin at 10:30 AM on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at King David Memorial Chapel, 2697 E. Eldorado Lane, Las Vegas, NV and will follow with a burial in the adjacent Palm Eastern Cemetery, next to her husband Herb, who passed away in 1999.
For those who wish to remember Gerry, in lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider a donation to the Susan G. Komen Organization to help end breast cancer. King David Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements.
