Ghenet was born on January 12,1939 in Adi Seehel Asmara, Eritrea, to Luul Gebrezgi and Umuna Nerayo. She had three sisters; Maasho, Hedega, Abeba and one brother, Debesay. In 1953 she married Kassa Abraha and gave birth to five children; Mussie, Lydia, Saba, Miriam and Saron.
After studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses, Ghenet was baptized in 1974 at the Jehovah’s Witnesses Convention in Nairobi, Kenya, as a symbol of her dedication to Jehovah. This began her 48-year walk of faith with Jehovah. Although, suffering through a myriad of health issues, Ghenet’s faith and service to Jehovah never wavered.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling, hiking, spending time with friends and cooking. But most importantly, she enjoyed preaching and teaching others about Jehovah. Before attending Jehovah’s Witnesses weekly meetings she would recite her favorite scripture to her children with joy in her heart:
I rejoiced when they said to me: “Let us go to the house of Jehovah.” Psalm 122:1
Ghenet was also a loving grandmother to Liya, Mussie, Mia, Lisa, Yolanda, Keanu, Jonathan and Deanna.
She was also a great-grandmother to Amya, Rakeb, Herani and Nolan Jr.
Ghenet is survived by her two sisters and one brother, five children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ghenet Luul will truly be missed by her entire family and many good friends.
