Gregorio Gapas Aglipay, 72, passed away on April 21, 2014 at Sunrise Hospital after a bravely fought battle against cancer. He was born on February 19, 1942 in Batac Ilocos Norte Philippines to the late Socorro and Victoria Aglipay. He found his soul mate and partner for life at the age of 22 when he married Avelina Bactat Aglipay on June 26, 1964. When he was still in the Philippines, he worked as a carpenter. To give a better future and education to his children, he sacrificed to leave his family and went to Saudi Arabia during 1980-1986. Through the goodness of Ventura and Cubangbang family, they were able to reach Hawaii in the year 1997 and lived there for nine years. In 2006, they moved to Las Vegas. He got a job at the California Hotel as a kitchen worker through the help of Joyce Atendido. On his free time, he loved gardening and watching TV, especially the Filipino channel. Gregorio is survived by his wife Avelina Bactat Aglipay; his sons Romeo and Erwin; daughters Gina and Eleanor; sons-in-law; daughters-in-law; and eight grandchildren, all whom brought great joy to his later years. Tata Guyo, Lolo Greg or Papa Greg liked to put pomade on his hair, chewing betel nut (bua), spraying lots of perfume and dressing up neatly, always. He will be more remembered though with his unique voice. If he’s whispering, then it seems that he’s talking in a normal voice but if he’s talking in a normal voice, then it seems that he’s shouting. Scary at time when he’s talking, especially if you don’t know his attitude but there’s a very big love and concern behind those distinct voices. He was a strict father. When we were still young he wanted us all to be in the house at 6:00 p.m. and all of us had to be in front of the table for our dinner. He would whip us if we did not go to school or if we had done something wrong. But as we grew older, we all realized that he was strict to us because he wanted us to have a better education, better life and better future. He never stopped helping, even when we started having our own families. He was loving, kind and generous to his grandchildren. He was always reminding his grandchildren to study hard, to be patient at all times, and to be a good boy/girl. We are very sad that you are no longer with us but for sure you are happy now where you are - no more tears, no more sadness and no more pain. Now that you are in heaven may you enjoy pure happiness. We will meet you again in the place of everlasting life to love, kiss and hug you. We love you so much Tata.
Thank you very much...farewell Tata/Grandpa/Lolo
