

Gregory James Mastros Sr., 58 years young, a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, lost his battle with acute myeloid leukemia on August 23, 2013 at 12:25pm in his home with his wife and niece by his side. He was born on December 11, 1954 in Torrance, California to the late Wallace and Dorothy Mastros. He married Laurie Jean on St. Patrick’s Day in 1988 and spent the next 28 years together. Gregory enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1983. He served on the USS America till 1985 upon being transferred to Submarine Service serving on the USS Flasher from 1986 till 1989. From October 1989 to September 1992, he went to the Recruit Training Center in San Diego, California. Gregory then served on the USS La Jolla from September 1992 to November 1996. After completion of his submarine duties in San Diego, he then became an instructor at the Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut until 1998. In that same year he was offered a desk job; he declined retiring keeping his dolphins which he wore so proudly and topping out as Quartermaster 1st (QM1). Upon retiring from the U.S. Navy, he then moved to Las Vegas and worked as an auditor in various casinos until 2009. Due to illness in 2009, he then retired permanently. Gregory is survived by his loving wife, Laurie; son, Gregory James Mastros of Palmdale, California; grandson, Zachary James Mastros of Palmdale, California; brother, Charles Carey Mastros of Thorton, Colorado; niece, Keri Mastros Webster of Las Vegas, Nevada; nephews, Dorian, Markus, and Wallace Mastros and Uncle Carlos of California. We now celebrate his life and his accomplishments. We will always remember our hero, never forgotten. Arrangements under the direction of Palm Eastern Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
