Haydee was born on August 29, 1954 in Dancalan, Philippines to Tranquilino Malaluan (originally from San Nicolas, Batangas) and Elena Posecion. She was the third of nine siblings: Ninfa, Teodorico (Teody), Lila, Benvienido (Ben), Rodney, Alejandro (Amang), Tranquilino Jr., and Bina.
She graduated high school from Dancalan Private Academy, and she graduated from Riverside College in 1975 with a G.N. (graduate nursing degree). She also completed a degree in Education at West Negros College, to complete a bachelors degree. Her first job was at Doctor’s Hospital in Bacolod, Philippines.
Professionally, she immigrated to the US on a H1 visa in December 1977, and initially worked in Dearborn, Michigan. It was there she met lifelong friends (Delia, Bambee and Joe) that would also move to Las Vegas. In 1979, she moved to Las Vegas, where she began her career at Southern Nevada Memorial (later renamed University Medical Center). She initially began as a staff nurse on 5 South, a medical/surgical unit, and she was eventually promoted to Nursing Manager for 2 West and 2 South. She embarked on a quality improvement project on those units that eventually led to the formation of Case Management, and she was the Director of Case Management from 1990-2008. She earned her Master’s in Healthcare Administration in 1996 from St. Joseph’s College of Maine. She was named March of Dimes and Philippine Nurses Association’s Nurse of the Year (in management) in 2001. She achieved 30 years of service at UMC in 2009 and retired (for the first time). She moved to Reno, NV and was the Administrator of Rehabilitation & Home Health at Renown Hospital from 2009-2014, and retired for the second time. She moved back to Las Vegas, and was Director of Case Management for Complex Care LTAC from 2015-2018, and retired for the third time. Her most recent professional adventure was the creation of G&F Consulting and Hope Medical Clinic, an outpatient 4-physician internal medicine clinic.
Personally, she married Oliver Pabilonia Florentino, and has been together & happily married for nearly 40 years. They loved to travel, plant, and earn points at the casino. They loved experiencing new places with friends and took great pride in guiding newcomers. Together, they raised one child, Candice, who eventually became a physician. She loved her son-in-law Michael Fortunato, and adored and spoiled her two grandchildren, Leo and Alina. She took immense pride in her role as a grandmother, and the kids affectionately called her “Nanay Hayds” and called their home “House #2”. She loved her ever-growing family both near and far, she also mentored countless others, helped them to establish themselves in a new land and new culture; if you have called her Boss or Tita, she has in some profound way touched your life.
She took her final breath on November 22, 2021, at 8:29pm (coincidentally her birthday), in the presence of her daughter and son-in-law, niece-turned-daughter, and nephew-turned-son, and several close friends. She has left a hole in our hearts, and we can only fill it with her vibrant spirit and joyful sentiments.
