

Helen Holms, a 30-year resident of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully in her home May 15, 2011, surrounded by her family after a brief battle with aggressive lung cancer. Helen was born May 26, 1923, in Bismarck, N.D. to Daniel and Vasso Bougas. The family moved from Bismarck to Williston, N.D., where her father and mother owned and operated a restaurant. Helen married Andy Milo Holms in 1947. They resided in Williston, where they raised their two children, Brad and Heidi. They retired to Palm Springs, Calif. in 1978 and moved to Las Vegas in 1981. She was a 28-year member of Mesquite Club, and was a founding member and member of several local bridge clubs. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband, Milo; daughter, Heidi; brother, James Bougas; and sister, Dolly Bougas. Helen is survived by her son, Brad (wife, Barbara) Holms of Katy, Texas; her twin grandsons, Aaron Holms (wife, Michelle) of Pfleugerville, Texas, and Nicholas Holms (wife, Kendra) of Richmond, Texas; four great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Benjamin (Nicholas), and Lauren and Hudson (Aaron); and sister, Angeline Dunlap of Las Vegas. She was cherished by her nieces, Kathy Keck and Dianna Bassett; and her nephews, Dan Johnson and Rik Ostert. Helen loved playing bridge, traveling with her sister, Angie, cooking and graciously entertaining her friends and family. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday May 21, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice of Las Vegas. Helen enriched the lives of all who knew her, and will leave a void in the hearts of her loving family and her many friends.
