July 31, 1921 - March 30, 2023
Herbert Muskin, a courageous World War II veteran, loving husband, father, grandfather, and compassionate orthodontist, passed away on March 30, 2023, at the remarkable age of 101. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Herbert lived a life marked by resilience, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his family and country.
Serving as a captain in World War II, Herbert bore witness to the Nuremberg Trials, an experience that would stay with him for the rest of his life. After the war, he returned to New York and pursued a successful career in orthodontics. Herbert generously provided free orthodontic care to police families and special needs children, making a significant impact on countless lives.
Married for 67 wonderful years, Herbert was the devoted husband of Sherry Muskin and the proud father of Drew (Nancy), Jon (Melissa), and the late May Muskin, who had special needs and was deeply loved by her family. He was also a doting grandfather to Eric, Daniel, Lexi, and Madison. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and his strength and guidance will be deeply missed.
A true character with a keen sense of humor, Herbert loved to joke around and bring laughter to those around him. He enjoyed playing blackjack, savoring dark beer, and cherishing the company of his beloved dogs. He was active in the veterans community and, upon retirement in his late 70s, he and Sherry moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Known for his fearlessness and determination, Herbert maintained excellent health and continued to drive and live an active life well into his 100s. His story touched many, including Fox5 Vegas, which covered his 101st birthday celebration.
Tragically, on March 1, 2023, Herbert was driving Sherry home from a shopping trip at Costco and was injured in a car accident caused by a stolen vehicle being pursued by the police. Despite the severity of the crash, Herbert's fighting spirit and resilience allowed him to survive until March 30, 2023, when he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. His untimely passing has left a void in the hearts of those who loved him, and the community he so selflessly served.
A funeral service for Herbert Muskin will be held on the morning of April 5, 2023, at New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Herbert's memory to a veterans' charity of your choice.
As we come together to honor the memory of this remarkable man, let us cherish the laughter, love, and inspiration he brought to our lives, and carry forward his legacy of resilience, service, and unwavering compassion. Though his years were cut short by a senseless act, Herbert Muskin's indomitable spirit and the impact
