She was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 7th, 1933. She met the love of her life, Don Lytton, on a blind date at Ohio State University. It was love at first sight and they spent the next 72 years together. After spending one year at college, she decided to go to work. She had a variety of interesting jobs in between raising three children. She worked for insurance companies, sold World Book Encyclopedia door-to-door, and prepared taxes as an enrolled agent. She contributed to many charities including Shalva, a shelter for Jewish women who were survivors of domestic violence and Laniado hospital in Netanya, Israel.
Hilda was a curious, intelligent, funny, and feisty lady. She was fortunate enough to travel all over the world. Her essays about her travels were not simple diaries. They were descriptive impressions of people and places and were filled with humor. She went to grocery stores every place she travelled to learn about the place and the culture. She enjoyed gambling after moving to Las Vegas. Don was known as “Hilda’s husband” at the casino.
She was preceded in death by daughter Susan Lytton, brother Irving Baker, and parents Rabbi Julius Baker and Sema Baker (Yablok). She is survived by her husband Donald Lytton and children Richard Lytton (Carol Knight) and Amy Lytton (Brigid Riley). Special thanks to her wonderful caregivers. They cared for her as if she were a part of their families. The funeral will be held on Thursday, October 20th at 10:00 a.m. at King David Memorial Chapel, 2697 E. Eldorado Ln, Las Vegas, 89120. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice or to the donor’s choice.
