She was born May 20, 1923 in Onyang, Choong Chung Namdo, Korea and was the daughter to Kang, Tae Yoon and Woo, Ki Nyo. She met her husband Son, Hyun Kook from nearby Manju, China and eventually married at the age of 21 on December 23, 1944.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing Education from Gojupa College in 1943. She worked at the Gojupa College Hospital until 1945 and decided to move to Seoul, Korea shortly after World War II ended. It was only five years later when she and her family had to live through and survive the Korean War, which ended in 1953.
She and her husband had five children between 1945-1957. Her husband Hyun Kook worked as a police officer while she stayed home as a housewife to care for their family. In 1970, she started a restaurant business and worked there for many years.
She and her husband decided to immigrate to the United States in 1978 to join their eldest daughter Sang Ye and youngest son Sang Youl. As with many immigrants, their hope was a better future for themselves and their family. They then sponsored their oldest son Sang Hoon five years later to join them in Las Vegas. She then moved to Sacramento, CA in the mid-1980s and then to Fremont, CA during the early 1990s, back to Las Vegas, NV where her husband passed away at the age of 85. She then moved to Turlock, CA to live with her two sons in the early 2000s before moving back to Las Vegas, NV in the 2010s.
She enjoyed knitting, socializing with her church friends, cooking, and loved planting and growing fruits and vegetables. She was a very religious Christian who prayed for hours every day and never lost her faith in God.
She is survived by her eldest son, Sang Hoon; her youngest son, Sang Youl; youngest daughter, Sang Hee; seven grandsons; and many great-grandchildren, all of whom live in the U.S. and South Korea. They brought her great joy to her later years and also kept her busy in her daily prayers.
The funeral service will be held at 12:30pm, July 30, 2021 at Palm Eastern Mortuary in Las Vegas, NV and will also be livestreamed using the link above during the same time. Burial will be held at 3:00pm at Palm Eastern Cemetery.
