Although only 63 years old at the time of his death, Hyman had lived a varied life. He was born in Miami, Florida in October of 1960, and spent his early years in West Virginia. After moving back to Florida, he always had time for his younger brothers and sisters, and developed a life-long devotion to the Miami Dolphins. Hyman briefly served in the US Army in 1980-1981, receiving the M-16 Sharpshooter and Hand Grenade Expert awards, before being honorably discharged. After his military service, Hyman moved to Las Vegas, NV, where he spent the rest of his life, enjoying champagne buffets, sporting events, holidays with his brothers’ and sisters’ families, and reading novels. Hyman held a number of different jobs in Las Vegas, including working at hotels as a member of the Culinary Union, before becoming a cashier for several convenience stores. He enjoyed working in those positions because of his interaction with the public, was known for his low-key but biting sense of humor, and was greatly appreciated by his employers. In the last year of his life, he met and fell in love with a woman who ultimately became his fiancée. Although Hyman had long been a bachelor, she softened his edges and helped him become a better person. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
His parents, Murray Cohen and Elizabeth Seymour Bonardi, and stepfather, Edward J. Bonardi, Sr., preceded him in death. He is survived by his fiancée, Shay Tamez, his siblings, Karen Lackey (Ron), Aaron Cohen (Dolores), Amy Cohen, and Ben Cohen (Kim), as well as his nephew, Devon Cohen, and nieces, Taylor Cohen, Shelby Cohen and Ashley Cohen. Hyman’s ashes will be interred in the Gan Shalom Cremation Garden at the King David Memorial Chapel & Cemetery in Las Vegas.
