1936-2019
Las Vegas, NV
Jack Hunter, principal and founder of Jack Hunter Investments, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 at his home in Las Vegas on April 6th, 2019 with his devoted family by his side. “I have no regrets, I’ve lived a good life” were words he used to describe himself. He was born on April 24, 1936 in Baldwin Park, California and moved to Las Vegas around 1939 at the age of three.
His two daughters Susan Hunley and Mary Friendship, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, survive him.
He began his career working at the Canada Dry Bottling Company; he held many jobs in his lifetime including washing dishes at Fong’s Garden to pay the hospital bill for his first child. He used to say, “I’ve never had a job I didn’t love”. He had the opportunity to open a used car lot across from city hall with the help of friends and partners. They then went on to buy the Toyota franchise in the early 1960’s. They built the Ed Fountain Toyota dealership on Sahara in the early 70’s and then another in 1977, Toyota West. The most important thing they built was a strong alliance of business partners that went on to create many prosperous businesses, wonderful memories and personal support. He still loved his work at 82 as an avid investor and business owner.
Mr. Hunter enjoyed golf and had achieved 3 “hole-in-ones”. He supported many causes and charities; some of his favorites were Three Square, Veterans and The Boys and Girls club.
Jack loved his friends and family, taking the same “all in” approach as he did in business. He could be salty, but was mostly known for his kindness, generosity, honesty and a good story. Jack was a life long Las Vegas character who knew, lived and loved the community’s rich history. He will be greatly missed…it won’t be the same without him.
