Jacqueline Margaret Denis, 68, a long-time resident of Henderson, Nevada passed away of natural causes on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at her home. She was born July 13, 1944 in Lewiston, Maine to Armand and Ida Madore. She found her soul mate and partner for life in that same home town, and married Raymond Ronald Denis on June 12, 1965.
Jackie attended and graduated from Lewiston High School, focusing her studies on home economics. Following high school, she attended night courses in her quest of becoming a professional seamstress, and this pursuit ultimately remained a passionate hobby as the never-ending duties of motherhood and raising a family took precedence over all other dreams, which she never regretted. Jackie had the skill of a seasoned professional on the sewing machine, as well as her much beloved embroidery machine. Anyone who had ever been graced with a handmade gift by Jackie knew that this woman’s talents were limitless.
In addition, Jackie’s other passion was photography and the use of computer software to enhance the appearance of anyone she had ever photographed. She would spend countless hours painstakingly working her magic in manipulating photographs to erase wrinkles, shed pounds away, and improve the quality of the simplest snapshot to that of a professional art studio. The photographs she would send out to party-goers by email days after a holiday or birthday party were a testament of her love for them and the memories that she hoped would last a lifetime.
Another passion of Jackie’s was cooking, and her meals were always delicious and eagerly devoured by her family and friends. There were no limits to the variety of cooking styles that Jackie would employ, because if there was a new cooking appliance or gadget on the market, she had to have it and would ultimately put it to good use. By far, her favorite appliance was the pressure cooker, and no recipe was safe from her attempts at trying to perfect the dish, which anyone whoever ate her dishes would tell you that she always did perfect them.
Finally, in another life, Jackie must have been a fish. She had an insatiable desire to return to the sea, as demonstrated by her love of cruising. She was constantly on the hunt for great deals on short-notice cruises, and she never passed up the opportunity to take a week to sail the ocean with her devoted husband, Ray, no matter the destination.
Jackie’s passing came very unexpectantly. On Friday evening, she was transported to the emergency room by ambulance for issues that eventually subsided and ultimately led to her release in the care of her husband early that next morning. That day, she awoke to make breakfast and spent the remainder of the day relaxing with Ray watching television in the living room of her home. Although feeling run down, she was otherwise in good spirits. Early Sunday morning, sometime after midnight, she passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was discovered later that morning with her beloved pet pug sleeping on the couch cradled next to her, as it usually had done so many evenings before.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond; son, Darryl and his wife, Dana; daughter, Darlyne and her husband, Michael; six grandchildren, who were always her pride and joy; sister, Harriet; and everyone whose lives she ever touched. Jackie will be missed and always remembered with love.
It is with great heart-wrenching sadness that we say goodbye to this loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Our sadness is only tempered by our joy in the realization that Jackie’s soul now resides in Heaven, and the hope that we will be with her again someday, God willing.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., January 6, 2012 at Palm Mortuary. Jackie’s remains will be entombed on January 18, 2012 during a private ceremony reserved for immediate family members at the Southern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, Nevada.
Arrangements under the direction of Palm Eastern Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
