James was born August 11, 1938 in Madisonville, Texas to LurnLean Davis and James Edd Booker. He married Heather Lee Hammond on September 30, 1989 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He worked as Head Fueler at Western Airlines for over 21.5 years and was on the Teamsters Retiree Board, before retiring at age 49 and moving to Las Vegas in 1988. In Las Vegas, he maintained his own landscaping business for several years. He and his wife were actively involved in several civic organizations in Las Vegas, most notably the local AARP chapter and the Paradise Democratic Club. He and Heather received the Grassroots Award in September 2016 for their outstanding organizing efforts.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Edd & LurnLean Davis Booker, his sister, Anna Bee Booker Johnson, his half-sister, Eddie Booker Moore and his son, Robert Hamilton Booker.
James is survived by his wife, Heather Hammond Booker; his children, Shounelle Denise Booker, Marcus Glen (Gloria) Booker, and David Quintin (Brenda) Booker; his brothers, Curby (Marie) Booker and Gail (Patricia) Booker; his grandchildren, David Quintin Booker II, Alexandria Booker (John) Bauer, DeMarcus Booker, and Markezia Booker (Andre) Rives; his great grandchildren, King Booker, Prayze Booker, and Aniya Booker; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
A celebration of life ceremony will be scheduled at a future date. Palm Eastern Mortuary and Cemetery at 7600 S.
