James Roy Hamilton was born on September 14, 1931, in Warren County, Georgia, to William H. Hamilton and Beatrice J. Hamilton, the eldest of their children. He grew up in the vibrant city of Savannah, Georgia, where the foundation of his character disciplined, devoted, and full of life was laid early.
June 01, 1951, James answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in —the United States Air Force, embarking on a distinguished military career that would span over two
decades and take him across the globe. He served with honor at Sheppard AFB (Texas), Gunter AFB (Alabama) Larson AFB (Washington State), Ramstein AFB (Germany), Mac Dill AFB (FL), and Misawa AFB (Japan), among other postings, carrying with him the warmth of a man who made home wherever he landed. In 1972, he was stationed in Las Vegas, Nevada — a city that would
become his forever home. He retired from service on March 1, 1974, having given 23 years to the defense of his country.
Following his military career, James continued to serve his community through his work with the United States Postal Service, where he brought the same dedication and reliability that
had defined his time in uniform.
James’s greatest joys were his family. In 1951, he welcomed his first daughter, Linda. In January 1956, he married Julia Jones Hamilton, and together they grew their family with the births
of Patricia Thea on May 27, 1958, and Sandra Yvonne on January 19, 1960. He and Julia shared 47 years of marriage until her passing in 2003. Later in life, love found James again, and on March 30, 2013, he married Pauline Burns Hamilton, who remained faithfully by his side.
Beyond family, James was a man of fellowship and fraternity. He was a proud member of the Dannasans in Misawa AFB, Japan and Prince Hall Masonic Lodge No. 27 in Las Vegas —affiliations that reflected his lifelong commitment to brotherhood, community, and service.
On April 27, 2026, James Roy Hamilton passed peacefully into eternity, surrounded by his beloved wife and daughters, at the remarkable age of 94. He lived a life well-traveled, well-loved,and well-lived.
James leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 13 years, Pauline Burns Hamilton; his four daughters, Linda of Savannah, GA, Patricia of Atlanta GA, Sandra of Los Angeles CA, and Leticia of Las Vegas NV; nine grandchildren, Brittanie, Anthony, Troy, Koree, Perry, Jahmal,Cauleen, Clifton, and Maiya; his sisters-in-law, Mary “Babycakes” Hallman of Atlanta GA, Delores Burns, Blanche Walker, Olivia "BB" Jones, Carolyn "Sue" Ridick, Lynetta "Poochie" Burns and

also leaves behind a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, extended family, and friends, whose lives he touched.
