James Francis O'Hara, 91, of Henderson, NV, passed away on September 27th, 2023. He was born in 1932 to James and Bridget O'Hara in New York, NY. Jim is reunited in Heaven with his childhood sweetheart and beloved wife, Joan, his loving and devoted son, James William, and his infant daughter, Madeline.
Jim was a caring and loving father. He is survived by his children Carol, Stephen, and Jeanne; his six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. In addition to their human children, Jim was a loving parent to many fur babies, including many Golden Retrievers, his rescue Buzz, and Bootsie, his sweet tuxedo cat that he leaves behind in the loving hands of his grandchildren.
Jim proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War with a posting in Germany. Upon the end of his service, Jim attended and graduated St. John's University Law School, and continued serving his country as a U.S. Attorney. Jim ultimately entered private practice, becoming a prominent figure in Customs Law and representing clients such as Nike and Columbia Sportswear. Jim gave back to his community throughout his legal career, teaching the next generation of lawyers at UCLA Law School, and represented many clients pro bono.
Jim and his wife Joan loved to travel, and had many great adventures both on the land, and especially on the sea in his beloved boat Edelweiss. Jim loved the opera and frequently attended performances at both the Metropolitan Opera House in New York and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. When at home, Jim loved to garden and BBQ on Sundays. Jim was an avid football fan and loved his Note Dame Fighting Irish and any team Joe Montana played on.
Jim was a truly great man whose impact and spirt will forever be felt by his family, who love him dearly. His passing has left a gap in the hearts of his loved ones, who will always remember his ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love. His strong sense of morality is engrained in all he knew.
A memorial service will be scheduled in the near future, where Jim will be interred with his beloved wife Joan and son James. In lieu of flowers and in deference to Jim and Joan's love of animals, any donation in his name to an animal shelter or rescue organization is greatly appreciated.
