Born on October 25, 1939, in New London, Connecticut, James lived a life filled with service, adventure, family, and an appreciation for the simple things that brought him joy.
James proudly served in the United States Navy, a career that took him around the world and allowed him to see places and experience things that many could only imagine. Through years of dedication and service, he advanced to the rank of Captain, a reflection of his commitment, leadership, and perseverance.
Above all, James was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Luzviminda Palec Pafias, and their only child, Spenser Pafias, and his brother Risto Pafias. He is also survived by his children from a prior marriage, Trixie and Win, as well as his two adoptive children, Jackie and Howell Pafias.
James had a personality that made people remember him. He was funny, loved to joke, and had a generous spirit. He enjoyed making people laugh and was the kind of person who could bring humor and warmth into everyday moments.
He was also a lifelong sports fan, with a particular devotion to the Boston Red Sox. He loved watching the Red Sox play and rarely wanted to miss a game. His loyalty extended to Boston sports in general, with one notable exception—hockey. The Red Sox, however, held a special place in his heart.
Outside of sports, James enjoyed science-fiction television and Westerns. He also loved running and staying physically fit, continuing to do so for as long as he was able. His interests reflected his curiosity, energy, and enjoyment of life.
James will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a proud Navy Captain, a generous man, and someone who brought laughter and personality wherever he went. His life touched people across the many places he traveled and, most importantly, the family he loved.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
