Obituary of James Dennis Sparrow
IN THE CARE OF

Palm Eastern Mortuary & Cemetery

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Dennis Sparrow, who died peacefully on February 23, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on December 28, 1941, in Buffalo, New York to Russell and Blanche Sparrow, Jim's life was defined by his dedication to family, education, service, and his love for tennis.

A graduate of the University of Buffalo, where Jim earned his bachelor's, master's, and post graduate degrees in educational administration, his pursuit of higher education fueled his passion for teaching and leadership. After graduating from the University of Buffalo, Jim joined the Peace Corps where he completed his service in Lombok, Indonesia, offering his skills and support to communities in need. Following his Peace Corps service, he was drafted into the Army and after his Army service, he served his community for many years as the Assistant Principal of Sweet Home High School, where he touched the lives of countless students, shaping their futures with wisdom, compassion, and dedication.

Jim's commitment to service extended far beyond the classroom. An avid tennis player and coach, Jim's passion for the sport was one of the defining features of his life. He was known for his competitive spirit and excellence as a player. As the coach of the Sweet Home High School tennis team, he not only honed his players’ skills but also instilled in them values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. His impact on the tennis community was lasting, and his love for the game inspired many in his native Buffalo and Henderson communities.

In 1999, after a fulfilling career, Jim retired and moved to Las Vegas with his wife, Beth. There, he enjoyed a well-deserved retirement, embracing new adventures

while still staying connected to his passion for tennis, pickleball, and his family. He and Beth cherished their years in Las Vegas, creating new memories and enjoying the freedom of retirement, but Buffalo and the ever-challenged Bills football team always remained close to their hearts.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Beth Sparrow; his daughter, Rachel Sparrow; his son, Christopher Sparrow; his daughter in-law, Jane Sparrow; his brother, Donald Sparrow; and his two grandsons, Kyle and Logan. Jim leaves behind a lasting impact in the lives he touched, both personally and professionally.

Jim’s legacy of service, love for education, dedication to tennis, and devotion to his family will never be forgotten. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
