

Born on July 21, 1963, to Donald and Faye Swenson. Jim grew up in Dunnell, MN and attended Sherburn Dunnell Schools where he graduated in 1981. After graduation, he continued his education at Jackson Vocational School, studying carpentry. In 1984 Jim joined the United States Air Force, where he served his country with dedication until 1990. Jim moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he built a successful career at Treasure Island Casino. Known for his incredible work ethic, quick wit and infectious smile, he made lasting friendships wherever he went.
On June 24th, 2011, James was united in marriage to the love of his life, Thomas Smith. Together they built a life filled with laughter, adventure and unwavering love.
Jim was deeply loved by his husband, Thomas Smith, the love of his life and best friend. He also leaves behind his beloved son, Christopher (Candice) Norman, and two amazing grandchildren, Isabelle and Isaiah, who brought endless joy and pride to his life.
He is survived by one brother and four sisters, one brother in-law and one sister in-law – along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him dearly.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Jerry and Faye Peters, father Donald Swenson; Mother and Father in-law Walter and Kathleen Smith, brothers, Wayne Swenson and Terry Swenson, sister in-law Janette Swenson.
Jim loved good conversation, a hearty laugh, and of course, a cold Budweiser shared with friends. His easygoing spirit, humor, and generosity made every gathering brighter. He will be remembered for his big heart, his loyalty to those he loved and the countless memories he created along the way. The family encourages acts of kindness or a toast in his honor - just the way Jim would have wanted.
Please join us for the viewing on Wednesday October 29, 2025 from 11-1230pm at Palms Eastern 7600 S Eastern Ave, followed by a funeral service at 1pm. The family would also like to invite you to a celebration of life following the service at Sunset Park.
