Jami Teresa Eversgerd, 59, of Summerlin, Nevada died Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Spring Valley Hospital. Born December 30, 1964, at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado to Charles and Alice (née Elling) Eversgerd, Jami moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in the early 1970s as a young child. She accompanied her family on yearly trips to visit extended family in and around Breeze, Illinois – but Las Vegas remained her lifelong home.
Jami attended Rancho High School in Las Vegas, before pursuing her high education and graduating in three years from the California Western School of Law in San Diego, California. Returning to Las Vegas, but disillusioned with the ethical shortcomings of lawyers, she entered a successful partnership that purchased, renovated, and rented homes.
Jami left that partnership several years later and began a lucrative 35-year career as a general and healthcare insurance broker. In the last several years, she also took on the exhilarating role of mystery shopper. With an in-depth knowledge of her hometown, attention to detail and crisp writing, she quickly became an in-demand producer of high-value, critical clandestine assessments of some of the finest hotels, restaurants, and casinos in Las Vegas.
Jami had a lifelong passion for all creatures and the natural world. She never passed a dog of any shape or size without stopping, talking directly to them and – with the owner’s permission – petting them lovingly. As someone who raised and trained horses of her own, she was an avid and accomplished rider. Never one to shy away from the most daunting of challenges, Jami spent a full week riding and camping on the Colorado Trail on horseback: not once, not twice, but an impressive three times.
Jami possessed a fiercely competitive spirit and found joy in her later years playing in the American Poolplayers Association league of Las Vegas. Her focus and skill on the pool table, well balanced by a fun-loving nature, led to numerous individual and team victories and countless treasured friendships. Along the way, Jami met the love of her life, Jackie Turner. As “Jack ‘n Jill” partners, they qualified for national level team competition an unprecedented three consecutive times.
Jami will be deeply missed by her beloved Jackie and three generations of family, including her sister Robin (née Eversgerd) Sutton of Copperas Cove, Texas; nephews Christopher Sutton of Austin, Texas, and Charles (Buddy) Eversgerd of Las Vegas, Nevada; nieces Lauren Sutton of Copperas Cove, Texas, Sarah Sutton of Orlando, Florida, Brittany Eversgerd of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Alicia Eversgerd of Las Vegas, Nevada; and great grandnieces Nova Orozco, Leia Orozco, Raelee Akui, Leeann Akui, and Joleen Akui.
Jami was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Alice Eversgerd, and brothers Kevin Eversgerd and Duane Eversgerd.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 16 at 9:00 a.m. at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 South Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89123. Family and friends will officiate, and burial will follow.
