

Janell Paula Sila was an expressive, optimistic, and uninhibited individual. She brought joy to every room she entered, and she willingly shared that joy with anyone whose life she touched. Janell was witty, kind, and was always ready to help those in need. Throughout her years, she really mastered the art of living and had great fun in doing so.
Janell was born on June 23, 1975 at Tripler Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii to Ietitaia and Lilieni Sa'o. She was raised in San Diego, California with her four sisters, Tiare, Jacelynn, Jasmine, and Jennifer; and her three brothers, Jarret, Jedidiah, and Josiah. Even as a child, Janell was warm, caring, and friendly. She was also always staying active. She joined athletic clubs for softball, soccer, and karate, and she even earned her black belt. Janell also loved to sing, both for choir and just for herself. She had an energy about her that couldn’t help but capture everyone’s attention. The friends she made she kept for life. Some of her dearest friends throughout her life were Missy King, Michelle Becnel, Carisa Moore, and Luan Jones.
After graduating from Junipero Serra High School in 1993, Janell began working in banking and finance for over ten years. She was a people person who knew exactly how to deal effectively with others, and her enthusiasm and energy was often contagious. This love for helping others extended past work and into community involvement. She served on committees for HELP Nevada which guides and assists people through difficult barriers and allows people to become self-sufficient. For Janell, taking care of others was its own reward.
On August 4, 2001, Janell exchanged wedding vows with To'oTo'o Junior Sila at the Chapel of Happiness in San Diego. She was always sensitive to other people’s feelings, and that was especially true in her marriage. She was also blessed with her daughter, Nylah Taisali-Tiare Sila. For Janell, being with her family was her greatest joy. Some of her favorite memories were taking road trips with her Vegas family and going on vacation to Jamaica. She loved her family, and they loved her deeply.
For 11 years, Janell was a member of Win the City Church in Las Vegas. Helping with the church and serving in the ministry was one of her favorite things to do. During this time, she was even the pastor’s personal assistant. Her faith was important throughout her life, and Win the City LV was a place she could call home.
Janell passed away on December 2, 2021 at home in San Diego. She is survived by her husband, To'o; daughter, Nylah; parents, Ietitaia and Lilieni; sisters, Tiare, Bella, Jasmine, and Jennifer; brothers, Tee, Jeddy, and Josiah; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held at Win the City Las Vegas.
Janell brought joy to all of those around her. She never had a mean bone in her body. She loved to have a good time and was an eternal optimist, always looking on the bright side of things. She loved to share her energy, wit, and her zest for life with her friends and family. Janell Paula Sila lived life to its fullest and made everyone around her happier just for knowing her. She will be remembered with a smile and will be truly missed.
