Janet Toporek

Janet P. Toporek, 74, was born on October 5, 1948, in Buffalo, New York, and peacefully departed on September 12, 2023, in Henderson, Nevada. She was the only child of Louis Finkelstein and Helen Pawlowska.

Janet graduated from Kenmore East Senior High School in Tonawanda, NY. She studied Corporate and Business Law at the University at Buffalo.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Gerald Toporek, whom she married on August 24, 1992. Their marriage introduced three adult children she grew to love: Wendy, Gary Joe, and Daryll. Janet had one child of her own, which she cherished and loved, Brent. He was born to her from a former spouse, Charles Baran.

Janet moved around and lived in West Seneca, NY; Santa Clara, CA; back to West Seneca, NY; Hamburg, NY; finally retiring to Henderson, NV.

With a background and career as a managing bank teller at M&T Bank in her earlier years, she possessed an extraordinary talent for managing her family's finances, which she enjoyed due to her knack for attention to detail. She cared deeply for her family and had a lively and outgoing personality that brought an abundance of joy and laughter to people's lives. Her outgoing nature and charming wit allowed her to strike up conversations with strangers and quickly form lasting bonds with new people who would ultimately become lifelong friends. She loved to travel when her son was young, and they would embark on many spontaneous day trips, creating lasting and cherished memories. Always the historian, she enjoyed photographing memories and creating extensive photo albums, but she rarely appeared in photos herself.

Janet leaves behind family and friends who loved and cherished her, just as she loved, cherished, and adored them in return. Her warm smile, friendly nature, and generous heart will be remembered by those who knew her and had the privilege of enjoying the company of a one-of-a-kind wife, mother, daughter, and friend.

A memorial service for Janet will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 12:40 PM to 1:10 PM at Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, Nevada 89005.
