Jeffrey “Jeff” Slater, Brooklyn-born, Vegas-seasoned, and New York to the core, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He didn’t go down without a fight because, let’s be honest, Jeff didn’t do anything quietly.
Raised in Brooklyn, Jeff carried the city's unmistakable spirit everywhere he went: a little rough around the edges, a little louder than necessary, and a whole lot of heart. He eventually traded in the stoops of New York for the slot machines of Las Vegas, but make no mistake, the man bled Yankees pinstripes and Rangers blue. Mets fans, we love you, but Jeff didn’t. Don’t take it personally.
For over 25 years, Jeff found his rhythm behind the bar, delighting guests with specialty drinks and stories with equal flair. He held court at the Gold Coast, where he wasn’t just a bartender, he was family. He had the kind of charm that could disarm anyone, especially after a well-poured cocktail and one of his famously off-color jokes. You never knew what he was going to say, but it was usually funny, sometimes wildly inappropriate, and always memorable.
Jeff was the kind of guy who always had a connection. Need tickets? Tires? The best pastrami in a 10-mile radius? Jeff knew someone. He built relationships effortlessly, with that unmistakable Brooklyn blend of sarcasm and sincerity. He could talk to anyone and usually did. Food, cars, and stories were Jeff’s holy trinity. He passed down his love for all three to his sons, Robert and Ari, along with a healthy appreciation for laughing at life and not taking crap from anyone. He was a loving father first and foremost, proud of his boys beyond measure.
Jeff is survived by his sons Robert and Ari, his father Kenneth, his sister Merideth, and a sprawling family of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who might as well be family — especially if they ever sat at his bar. He was one of a kind, loud, loyal, loving, and the world is a little less colorful without him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in true Jeff fashion, with a raised glass, a well-timed joke, and no Mets jerseys in sight. Details will be shared with friends and family once finalized.
For those attending the funeral service, we encourage you to honor Jeff’s spirit by wearing sports attire, preferably repping a New York team (except the Mets—seriously, don’t push it) and your favorite pair of jeans.
Jeff's funeral service will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at King David Memorial Chapel & Cemetery, 2697 E Eldorado Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89120.
Following the funeral service, there will be a committal service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the External Service Location, 2697 E Eldorado Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89120.
